A rescue operation is underway in the Red Sea after the tourist boat Sea Story sank near the renowned diving destination of Shaab Satayah, off the coast of Marsa Alam, Egypt.

On Sunday,  November 17th, 2024, a ship transiting the Red Sea, approximately 25 nautical miles west of Al-Mukha, Yemen, reported a missile splashdown in the water nearby, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency.

A Danish-flagged container ship, the Rhine Maersk, was en route from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, to Algeciras, Spain. However, crew members were forced to change course and head to the port of Tenerife after they detected smoke and high temperatures in a section of containers carrying combustible cargo.

Two German naval ships are taking a longer, safer route around Africa rather than risk passage through the Red Sea, where Yemen’s Houthi rebels have recently escalated attacks on maritime traffic.
