Ørsted and ESVAGT have joined forces once again to build a second methanol-powered SOV.

An SOV is a service operation vessel, with this expected to enter service in 2026 to help assist offshore wind operations on the east coast of the United Kingdom.

The first SOV entered service in 2022 and will be powered by a duel fuel, a renewable e-methanol substance that has renewable energy and biogenic carbon.

This is expected to reduce its yearly carbon emissions intake by 4,500 tons.

About the ESVAGT SOV

The ESVAGT SOV has a top speed of 14 knots and is around 305 feet in length. The vessel is mainly used for specialists and technicians living onboard whilst applying works to offshore wind power plants.

This vessel will be able to handle 124 passengers per trip and include many facilities that cater to the needs of the staff who will be onboard the ship.

Ørsted has been using this type of vessel in order to meet its goals of becoming carbon-neutral going into the future.
