Man dies after falling from Viking Mars cruise ship at Port of Cromarty Firth in Invergordon

In a sad turn of events, a crew member aboard the Viking Mars vessel believed in his 40s, was transported via helicopter to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after an unfortunate incident at the Port of Cromarty Firth in Invergordon.

The distress call was initiated around 11:00 on Friday, prompting an immediate response from two ambulances, a helicopter, and a trauma team, all dispatched to the location.

Tragically, on Sunday, Viking Mars issued a statement confirming the untimely passing of the crew member, who has chosen not to be identified. The company expressed profound sorrow, saying, "It is with great sadness that we confirm a crew member passed away following an incident in Scotland on 18 August. We shared our deepest sympathies with the crew member's family and are working to ensure they have the support they need during this difficult time. "Viking's focus remains on the safety and well-being of our crew and guests. Our operations team is working with local authorities to determine how this occurred."

Authorities from Police Scotland disclosed on Friday that they had received reports indicating that the individual had fallen from the ship at Saltburn Pier. Subsequently, a representative from the police force reported on Sunday, "Upon the arrival of emergency services, the individual was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. A comprehensive report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Law enforcement noted that the Health and Safety Executive had been informed of the incident.
