The Coast Guard carried out a rescue operation last week, saving two boaters whose vessel had capsized around two miles south of Point Au Fer Island, Louisiana.

Watchstanders at Sector New Orleans received a distress call from St. Mary 911 dispatch at approximately 10:24 p.m. on Thursday, reporting that a 35-foot fishing boat was taking on water with two individuals on board.

The watchstanders immediately coordinated with Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to launch an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew for assistance. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office also dispatched small boat crews.

The Jayhawk aircrew successfully located the overturned vessel, with the two boaters standing on its hull. They skillfully lifted the boaters onto the helicopter and safely transported them to the Houma-Terrebonne Airport. Both individuals were reported to be stable at the time of the rescue.
