Emergency crews responded to a boat wreck on the Tennessee River Monday morning after a man was thrown from his bass boat and injured near Decatur, Alabama.
According to officials, Morgan County Central Dispatch received a 911 call around 10 a.m. reporting a boating accident near mile marker 306, close to the Wolverine Plant on the north side of the river. Initial reports indicated the sole occupant of the vessel had been ejected from the boat and appeared to have suffered a broken arm.
Multiple emergency agencies were immediately dispatched to the scene, including Decatur Fire & Rescue, Morgan County Rescue Squad, Decatur Morgan Ambulance, and the Alabama State Trooper Marine Patrol Division.
Rescue boats from Decatur Fire & Rescue Marine 1 and the Morgan County Rescue Squad arrived shortly after the call. Responders quickly located the injured boater and safely pulled him from the water.
The patient was transported by boat to Riverwalk Marina, where additional responders and an ambulance unit were waiting. He was then taken to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Meanwhile, the Morgan County Rescue Squad remained at the scene with the damaged vessel until Alabama State Troopers arrived. Troopers are expected to lead the investigation into the cause of the wreck. The rescue squad later towed the damaged boat to Ingalls Harbor.
This incident marks the second water rescue in the area in as many days. On Saturday, another boater was hospitalized after their vessel reportedly struck a submerged object and flipped multiple times, according to preliminary reports.
Authorities are reminding boaters to exercise caution on the water, remain alert for hazards, and wear proper safety gear at all times, especially during peak boating season.
