Italian ferry operator Moby took delivery of the largest passenger ferry in the world, the RoPax Moby Fantasy.

This represents a four-year wait from the order placed with the Chinese manufacturer back in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the industry.

The Moby Fantasy will be capable of speeds of 25 knots, with the service speed being 23.5 knots. The ship is 777 feet long with a 105-foot beam and 13 decks.

This delivery will help Moby bolster capacity offerings further around the Italian and Corsican coastlines.

Large Capacity

Offering a maximum capacity of 3,000, Moby will establish an overall service capacity of 2,500 passengers, of which accommodations will offer 441 passenger cabins.

It also offers a capacity of 1,300 cards or 300 trucks, enabling significant transportation offerings for customers who will board this ferry in the weeks ahead.

Construction of the ferry began in 2020 and was launched for tests in November 2021. Due to the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the delivery day was delayed a year to this year.

It is understood that another RoPax ferry is on the way to Moby, with the Moby Legacy due to be delivered in due course.

Moby currently has a fleet of 11 ferries, with Moby Fantasy being #12 and Moby Legacy due to be #13.

Overall...

It remains clear that Moby is pressing ahead with growth, especially with the delivery of two ferries due to take place this year.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see how the first few weeks of commercial service will be for the Moby Fantasy and what customers will think of the new ferry.

But for now, all eyes are on Moby to bring the ferry now into commercial service.
